SNP representatives in Moray have welcomed the news that the Olympic Torch will be passing through Tomintoul as it travels round the UK ahead of the London Olympics.Angus Robertson MP said:“ The Olympic flame is an enduring symbol of human endeavour and the bringing together of different nations and cultures through sport. I am delighted to see that the torch will pass through Tomintoul as it travels from Stornoway to Aberdeen and I am certain that many, many people will turn out for what will become a historic event for our highest village.” Richard Lochhead MSP said:“ The Olympic Games pits the best athletes in the world against each other and provides inspiration for our young people to get involved in sport and to strive to be the best. The torch procession brings that inspiration to people’s doorsteps, including here in Moray and it will be tremendous boost for the Tomintoul Community to welcome it.”Speyside Glenlivet Councillors, Pearl Paul and Mike McConachie, have also welcomed the news.Cllr Pearl Paul said:“ I’m fair chuffed that Tomintoul is going to be part of the Olympic Torch route in the run up to the 2012 Games. It will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for many people to see such an inspiring event. It is also a great opportunity for us to further promote the fantastic scenery and friendly communities in the Tomintoul and Speyside area.”Cllr Mike McConachie said:“ This is great news for Tomintoul, which is a centre for winter sports visitors and outdoor enthusiasts with hillwalking, mountain biking and many other opportunities on the village’s doorstep. I am already looking forward to joining the community in welcoming the Olympic Torchbearers to our local area.”
