Moray’s MP, Angus Robertson, and MSP, Richard Lochhead, have both welcomed the news that Chivas Brothers have won ‘Distiller of the Year’ at the International Spirits Challenge Awards.
The company also collected gold medals for three Moray malts - ‘The Glenlivet 18-year-old’, ‘Aberlour 16-year-old Double Matured’ and ‘Strathisla 12-year-old’. William Grant & Son won a trophy and gold medal for ‘The Balvenie Portwood’ and gold medals for their ‘Glenfiddich 40-year-old’, ‘Glenfiddich Age of Discovery’ and ‘The Balvenie Signature’ With more than 1,000 entries from nearly 70 countries the accolades for are a significant achievement. Local MP Angus Robertson said: “ It is great to see Moray whiskies achieving this success. Distiller of the year in particular for Chivas and the Trophy for William Grant & Sons Balvenie Portwood are especially noteworthy and I congratulate everyone involved with these companies. “ Whisky continues to buck the economic trend with sales and exports looking very good. That is reflected with tens of millions of investment in Moray by the industry and it is great to see that success being rewarded.” Richard Lochhead MSP said: “ Our distilleries and the associated industries provide important skilled work to many people across Moray and these award winning brands and products help to cement the reputation for quality and excellence that Moray whiskies have throughout the world. “ The whisky industry is a vital ambassador for Moray and for Scotland as a whole and the successes in the International Spirits Challenge Awards are thoroughly deserved.” |
