200 MILLION INVESTMENT PLAN FOR ABERDEEN-INVERNESS RAIL LINE WELCOMED PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 29 September 2011 00:00
Moray’s MSP Richard Lochhead and MSP Angus Robertson have welcomed the publication of Network Rail’s Initial Industry Plan (IIP) which sets out their investment priorities for the next period of rail investment.

The plans include a proposed 200 million pound investment in rail infrastructure between Inverness & Aberdeen to increase capacity and reduce journey times.

Proposals include reducing the Inverness-Aberdeen journey time to under 2 hours, a new station at Inverness Airport and a half hourly service between Elgin & Inverness.

Richard Lochhead MSP said:

“ Network’s rails publication of these plans is critical to our future rail investment. A significant amount of appraisal work has already been carried out and it is great to see our local rail network in Moray set to major investment in the coming years.

“ The rail network through Moray is booming at the moment, which is obvious to anyone using our very busy trains to get to Inverness & Aberdeen. Investment in greater capacity and improved journey times is very much a priority.”

Angus Robertson MP said:

“ This announcement of critical infrastructure plans will have a major positive impact on Moray and will also bring jobs as it is progressed.

“ As well as the improvements set to take place within Moray the plans for a station at Dalcross, serving Inverness Airport, is a major boost to tourism and connectivity for those doing business beyond Moray’s border.”
