COMPANY WRONGLY WARNS OF CUTS TO CONCESSIONARY SCHEME PROTECTED BY SNP GOVERNMENT

Moray’s MP Angus Robertson has lambasted National Express after they wrongly emailed customers in Scotland claiming the concessionary fares scheme would be cut – when in fact it is being protected by the SNP Government.

As a result of Tory-Lib Dem cuts to the English scheme the Managing Director of National Express, sent a blanket email to customers last week stating that the concessionary fares scheme will be cut – but not making clear that passengers in Scotland would be unaffected.

The company operates a number of routes from locations in Scotland, including Aberdeen & Inverness, which many Moray bus users will connect with.

The SNP has called on National Express to correct the information given to Scottish customers, which is simply wrong and could cause some needless concern over travel costs for people.

The SNP’s Angus Robertson MP said::

“ This information being sent out by National Express is just wrong and could needlessly alarm people.

“ You would think that a national coach operator would understand the different concessionary fare structures between Scotland and England.

“ Not only has the SNP Scottish Government protected concessionary fares but we have widened the scope to veterans.

“ This concession is important to our elderly populations and helps considerably to keeping people active in their later years.

“ The Tories and Lib-Dems may be cutting the scheme in England but people in Scotland can rest assured that the SNP has no plans to do the same.

“ The company must correct their mistakes and make sure passengers in Scotland are re-assured that their travel scheme remains intact.”

The UK Coalition Government plans to introduce new legislation that would enable widespread surveillance of email, phone calls and social media such as Facebook. The SNP are opposed to security services having such wide-ranging powers. What do you think?
