Moray-based RAF service personnel who recently returned from Iraq and Afghanistan joined other RAF colleagues this week (Monday 27th June 2011) for a special reception at Westminster.
More than 150 RAF personnel were welcomed by Chief of the Air Staff Sir Stephen Dalton and prominent politicians including Moray MP Angus Robertson who is Vice-Chairman of the All Party RAF Group.
The personnel were invited to the “Homecoming” event for appreciation to be extended for their service in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Welcome packs were given to all of the Servicemen and Servicewomen including whisky from Benromach distillery in Moray.
Moray MP Angus Robertson said:
“It is vital that our military personnel are recognised for their service and this ‘Homecoming’ event was an excellent way to do this.
“Servicemen and servicewomen from the RAF attended a reception on the Westminster terrace, had tours of the House of Commons and House of Lords and were able to listen to a parliamentary statement on defence issues.
“I’m extremely grateful to Benromach Distillery and Gordon and MacPhail in Moray for providing whisky for a welcome pack for all of the RAF personnel who attended."
Convenor of the RAF Parliamentary Group Madeleine Moon MP said:
“These “Homecoming” events have become and important way to say ‘thank-you’ to returning personnel.
“It was great to see so many RAF servicemen and women including those who came such a distance from Moray.
“We are all very appreciative to Moray distillers Benromach and everyone at Gordon and MacPhail for providing the whisky gifts for the welcome pack that all of the RAF personnel received. It was an extremely generous contribution to what is a special event for our servicemen and women."
