MSP & MP URGE MORAY NOMINATIONS FOR OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 14 June 2011 00:00

Moray’s MSP, Richard Lochhead, and MP, Angus Robertson, are urging people to make Moray nominations for olympic torch bearers during the torch relay ahead of the London 2012 Olympics.

While the full detail of the route is stilI to be finalised later this year, the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) has confirmed that in the North of Scotland the torch will visit Inverness & Aberdeen, as well as Orkney, Shetland and Lewis.

Torch bearers can be anyone who has gone beyond their ‘personal best’ in any walk of life.

Commenting Richard Lochhead MSP said:

“ Nominations for olympic torch bearers can be anyone who has gone beyond their personal best in any endeavour. That can of course include sport but also in overcoming adversity, charitable work, helping others - pretty much anything!

“ I would urge people in Moray to think about nominating someone they know who deserves an opportunity to carry the olympic torch and get a nomination in before the 29 June deadline.”

Angus Robertson MP said:

“ The Scottish leg of the olympic torch relay will showcase our country and the talent and dedication of individuals from across our communities.

“ If you know someone who has shone in their life for any reason then think about nominating them to shine with the olympic torch as it travels through Scotland!”

Nominations should be no more than 150 words and should be submitted by 29 June. Full details of the process can be found at: www.london2012.com/olympic-torch-relay
