Moray’s Westminster MP Angus Robertson has welcomed the official start to the Elgin Flood Alleviation Scheme. Commenting the SNP’s Mr Robertson said:
“ I have already heard from people who are pleased to have seen physical work on the Elgin Flood Scheme. It is something tangible that flood victims can see and with activity on the scheme increasing by the day. The challenges to get to this stage have been significant but there is a very positive feeling as the construction starts in earnest.” The SNP’s Moray candidate for the Scottish Parliament Elections, Richard Lochhead, said: “ With the complex planning and preparation work behind us the community in Elgin are now able to see people and equipment getting down to the hard work of shifting over a million tons of soil, building new bridges and embankments and the many other tasks to protect Elgin residents and businesses against another disastrous flood. It is a good day for Elgin. SNP Councillor for Elgin City North, Mike Shand, who represents many of those flooded said: “ I have personal experience of dealing with the aftermath of flood damage and supporting people through the distress and pain that is caused. The physical start on the Elgin Scheme is the start of much needed relief for everyone affected. The work of the flood alleviation team to reach this stage has been hugely complex and I know they have been hugely motivated in their task by the need to protect the Elgin community from future flood events.” |
