WHISKY EXPORTS UP 10% IN 2010 PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 30 March 2011 00:00
Westminster SNP Leader and Vice-Chairman of All Party Parliamentary Whisky Industry Group, Angus Robertson, whose Moray constituency is home to more than half of all of Scotland's distilleries and single malt production has welcomed figures published by the Scotch Whisky Association today (Wednesday) which confirmed the value of whisky exports from Scotland had increased by 10% in 2010.

Mr Robertson added it was disappointing that Scottish Labour and Liberal Democrat MPs had failed to support an SNP bid to prevent duty discrimination on this vital industry as MPs voted on the Budget last night.

Commenting, Mr Robertson said:

" These export figures are great news for Scotland's vital whisky industry which is thriving in tough economic times.

" The whisky industry has been held back by an unfair taxation regime for years. It is disappointing that Labour and Liberal Democrat MPs failed to back an SNP bid to introduce a fairer system."

" It seems the rest of the world’s appetite for Scotland’s larder is getting stronger all the time!

" Over the past four years, the SNP Scottish Government has helped open up new overseas markets - Scotch whisky has been a particular success.

" Only by re-electing an SNP Government can we ensure this achievement continues."
